In the business world, as in the real world spoken of by von Goethe, perseverance is of utmost importance. Perseverance is displayed through continued effort, despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. It is failing 19 times and finding success on the 20th attempt. Change is the only constant in business, so a person of character who is able to persevere will be the one to find that elusive success.
It is often tempting, in the face of adversity, to quit on things – even things you strongly believe in. Life is full of the unknown, and there is no way to know whether your continued efforts will result in the reaching of your goals. Too many people in the modern world are enticed by the idea of quick success and do not act with perseverance in their business venture. The exception to the rule is the person who finds overnight success and fame; the rule is that time and hard work are the two main ingredients to success.
To persevere in life and business you need a few important character qualities. 1) Passion to dream big in a cynical world. 2) Tenacity to hold on to your dreams. 3) Resilience to get back up after you get knocked down. 4) Patience to wait for what you want. 5) And bravery to pursue your dreams in spite of adversity.
There is no easy way to persevere, but the road it leads you on is incredibly rewarding. It takes wisdom to know when to hold ’em and when to fold ’em, as the old saying goes; but steadfastly sticking to your dreams is the stuff from which heroes are made.
